When should you implement WBT?

As we said, at some point you may find yourself in a position where you must make a decision or recommendation about WBT. Where do you start?

thinking hardFirst, examine your learners. Web-based training may be appropriate for some forms of skills or knowledge-based training, but not for everything. Decide if the domain of the determined skill gap is cognitive, psychomotor, or attitudinal. If it is a cognitive skill, it may be suited for delivery over the web. (Driscoll, 1998)

Psychomotor skills and attitudinal skills are harder to teach using WBT (there are exceptions). Sometimes psychomotor and attitudinal skills can be taught using a combination of WBT and face-to-face training, especially if the skills have a cognitive component.
