A view of the the Hilton hotel during the holiday season. Every year the hotel illuminates their room windows in a pattern that spells the word JOY. This photograph dated December 21, 2006 was taken by Jim Epler during the Christmas Season in San Diego, CA on the 9th floor of the Double Tree Hotel in Mission Valley. It is cataloged under the terms travel, holiday, cities, architecture, seasonal scenes and signs & symbols in this photography database.

The image was exposed on 35mm Kodak Tri-X 400 black & white film stock using a Pentax Honeywell Spotmatic II camera with a Asahi Pentax 135mm f/3.5 lens stopped to f/5.6 and exposed at a speed of 1/2 second.

Photographer Comments: I think this is a great tradition and look forward to it every holiday season. I've wanted to photograph this display for a few years but could never find a decent vantage point until this past Christmas, when my wife suggested we try the hazard center shopping complex. She made a good choice!

Additionally, Jim thought of search words that someone might use to locate this picture including the terms holiday, rooms, Hilton, San Diego, pattern, hotel circle, building, JOY, lights, windows, Mission Valley, front, Christmas and California, so he included these on this page as a service to himself and others who would like to download this free photograph!
