| Ancient Native American ruins of the Casamero Pueblo in New Mexico near Thoreau. This photograph captured in 2000 was taken by Jim Epler in Prewitt, NM at a site along historic Route 66. It is cataloged under the terms nature, travel, architecture, landscapes & vistas, twilight scenes and rural scenes in this photography database. The image was exposed on 35mm Kodak GOLD 200 color film stock using a Pentax Asahi Spotmatic II camera with a Asahi Pentax 55mm f/1.8 lens. Photographer Comments: The Chacoan Anasazi people lived here almost a thousand years ago. It was windy and chilly and late in the afternoon when I took this picture. I was alone, which made the site feel very remote and eerie to me in nature. The mood would have been quite different had there been other tourists visiting the site. As it was, I admit I felt a strange presence around me that was peaceful but dually prophetic. I sensed I should move on before the sun set behind the mesas around me, which is exactly what I did!! |
