A group of Japanese men parading down a street during the Sanja Matsuri (Festival) in Tokyo, Japan. This photograph was taken by Jim Epler at 11:37 AM on 5/19/2007 in Tokyo, JPN near the Asakusa Sensoji Temple. It is cataloged under the terms travel, holiday, people, cities and style & fashion in this photography database.

This image was recorded on digital media using a Canon Digital Rebel xTi camera with a Canon 17-40mm f/4 L lens stopped to f 10 and exposed at a speed of 1/200 sec.

Photographer Comments: I liked the different colored happi coats worn by each neighborhood. Happi coats worn at Japanese festivals are called matsuri happi coats, and many have a kanji symbol on their back. I rushed into the middle of the procession to take this picture and almost got run over!

Additionally, Jim thought of search words that someone might use to locate this picture including the terms man, Sanja Matsuri, happi coat, Japan, procession, men, Japanese, festival, shrine and temple, so he included these on this page as a service to himself and others who would like to download this free photograph!
