| A silver gelatin print of a cyclist racing down the Mount Vernon Bike trail in Washington, DC. This photograph captured in October, 1999 was taken by Jim Epler during the fall in Washington, VA on the Mount Vernon trail along the Potomac River. It is cataloged under the terms people, sports, transportation and urban scenes in this photography database. The image was exposed on 35mm Kodak Tri-X 400 black & white film stock using a Pentax Asahi Spotmatic II camera with a Asahi Pentax 55mm f/1.8 lens. Photographer Comments: This is one of several test pictures I took as I practiced panning my camera to create a motion blur effect. This technique can be a bit tricky and requires practice. The technique requires focusing on an approaching subject and moving your camera in the same direction at approximately the same pace using a fairly slow shutter speed. I wasn't totally happy with the composition and focus of this photograph but feel it has enough artistic merit to post in my database. |

Additionally, Jim thought of search words that someone might use to locate this picture including the terms Potomac River cycle bicycle Theodore Roosevelt Island motion blur panning pan blurred motion blurring cyclist, so he included these on this page as a service to himself and others who would like to download this free photograph! |
