| Welcome to my online photo gallery! Far from a professional, I enjoy photography as a hobby and created this area as a way to catalog and organize my pictures for personal enjoyment to share with family and friends. It is a continual work in progress and gives me an opportunity to combine two of my recreational interests, database / Web development and 35mm photography. Admittedly, some pictures in my database are less accomplished than others but hold high sentimental value. Continued... When I lived near Washington, DC, I loved lugging around my Pentax Spotmatic SLR camera and tripod in the event I found an opportunity to capture a snapshot reflecting the essence of the area. I now live on the west coast in San Diego, CA. I still have my trusty Pentax Spotmatic, but I also shoot with a Canon EOS 300V (Rebel Ti) with a variety of prime and zoom lenses including a Canon EF 17-40 L USM Series and a 28-135 mm macro IS for low light photography. One of my favorite lenses is an older 17mm Soligor 1:4 Ultra Wide fisheye I use with my Pentax Spotmatic. There is so much to capture in San Diego, especially the eclectic flavor of the neighborhoods. I just ordered my first digital SLR (Canon EOS 400D / Digital Rebel XTi) and look forward to the increased flexibility it will provided. I don't plan to give up my film camera just yet, though! ;-) I shoot color transparencies using Fujichrome Velvia 50 and Kodachrome 64, and black and white using Kodak Tri-X Panchromatic film. I enjoy the darkroom almost as much as taking the actual picture; many of my prints are made on cold-toned Ilford polyfiber multigrade paper (glossy). I own a Beseler Dichro 67S (6730) enlarger, but don't have a dedicated space to use my darkroom equipment so I rely mostly on Photoshop and my G4, a Nikon LS2000 film scanner, a Microtek 4800 flatbed scanner, and an EPSON 2100 color printer. My next priority is to pick up a hardware monitor calibration system that will improve my workflow and the quality of my prints. Other interests include fishing, camping, and traveling, but one of my favorite hobbies is 35mm photography. I love to take my Pentax Spotomatic SLR camera and tripod into Washington DC at night and just explore-- I guess you could say I'm partial to street photography and straight phtography! That is why I created this gallery! I like to shoot documentary style because I always look for the decisive moment and I am a huge fan and have studied the works of the famed New Deal and Farm Security Administration FSA photographers during the Great Depression era. I shoot in black and white photogrphy and photgraphy using Kodak Tri-X Panchromatic film. |
